GRNC Action Alert: ELECT PRO-GUN NC HOUSE LEADERS!
As you will recall, House Majority Leader and current candidate for the Speaker pro tem position, Rep. Skip Stam (R, GRNC **) earned "Weasel" status last year by undermining pro-gun legislation through outright opposition and support of weakening amendments. His attempt to gut Castle Doctrine and successful removal of HB 650 language that would have allowed guns in locked vehicles at places of employment will not be forgotten.

Bert Jones (R, GRNC ****) who vies with Stam for the No. 2 position in

the loot to the other half of the nation have held their collective
breaths for all these years. They have suffered indignities of word and
deed by the corrupt government of the United States.
Hard-working entrepreneurs and small business owners struggled under the heavy burden of the economic collapse. Their futures were destroyed by the policies of the government either through the Community Reinvestment Act, which led to the mortgage scandals, or the TARP and Stimulus policies. TARP bailed out and rewarded the banks involved in the mortgage scandals and the Stimulus merely protected labor unions and government agencies with a little trickling over for the private sector, 1 or 2% when all of it needed to go to the private sector.
Religious organizations have been abused and debased by Obamacare mandates.
Energy companies (coal and oil) have been preyed upon by Obama Administration regulation and aggressive, punitive over-implementation of existing regulation.
The health care industry, including health insurance companies, are about to understand the full impact of Obamacare without the silver-lining promised to them to ensure their cooperation. Obama doesn't need to coerce or manipulate them any longer.
Employers across the nation will now struggle with all of the mandates and regulations that once seemed a long ways off before the re-election of Barack Obama. Layoffs and loss of benefits will hit those few who still paid the bills in this nation.
America has held its breath in hope that it would not all come to pass. Yes, there are those brilliant minds who still see a way to manipulate the system, but their intelligent efforts will not hold a candle to doctrinaire bureaucrats who don't care about the ultimate economic health of the nation. In fact, we are in the hands of those who would like to crash the system to reset it on a different footing, a socialist, or Marxists footing.
Political change almost never occurs outside of an economic disaster.
They want political change and understand the logic of the previous statement, they know it better than any capitalist could. It is not in the capitalist's vocabulary to destroy capital. The answer to everything in a capitalist frame of mind is profit that yields all answers to economic issues. To the Marxists currently in control of our government, economics are a means to a political end.
It is finally time to exhale and recognize that there is no solution to the continuing spiral downward into an economic abyss other than to engage those who are determined to accomplish it.
Our government has been undergoing the slowest revolution in world history. There is no hard line of demarcation between what was and what is. Everything crucial to a free America has been slowly evolved out of existence. Our rights, guaranteed by the Constitution, have eroded into nothingness, from sturdy boulders to the tiniest particle of sand. Capitalism, once the strength of the republic, has now become the scapegoat for socialist corruption. Our religion, once the backbone of American society, is hunkered down, fearful and ridiculed. It is in a state of panic.
One would think, with all of these institutions being attacked at once, finally in the curtain call of the republic, that they would bond together, to lean on one another, to recognize their roles in the upcoming fight and side with those who would give them strength. Instead, they crawl to the master on both knees begging to be spared the next indignity.
Exhale, forget the hopes you once had, they are gone, snuffed out. Grip the spear with vigor and reach out to those on your flanks. Recognize the battle is not your own, but engaged in across the nation in small, meaningless ways by individuals awaiting the groundswell of opposition.
You did not lose your job, the government took it. You did not lose your right to your own conscience, the government took it. You did not lose your company, the government took it. You did not lose your rights, the government took them. You did not lose your vote, the government took it.
No government true to the Constitution, legally following the precepts of our founding, could have taken all of these things from you. Only a corruption of the government could. We are not anti-government, we are anti-corruption. Our only allegiance is to a properly functioning, Constitution-abiding government. Where the ministers of this corruption appeal to patriotism is blasphemy. Patriotism is a dedication to the founding principles and intended purpose of government, which is to secure the lives, liberty, property and pursuit of happiness for its people.
I ask you this: Is that what is happening now?

Terry wanted to know more about it, so I tracked it down. Seems like I remember it now.

The Wothahellizat is a vehicle that’s part condo and part off-roader with no compromises.
Built by Australian nature photographer Rob Gray, the Wothahellizat was created with the aim of getting to out-of-the-way places in the wilderness and staying there for long stretches at a time. Built to carry three months of supplies, it regularly spends months at a time in the vast Australian outback.
As a 6X6 turbo diesel AWD, it gets to better, quieter, and more secluded campsites because it can handle rougher terrain than the average motorhome.
In Gray’s own words, the Wothahellizat motorhome “looks industrial on the outside, but it’s luxurious inside.”
Wothahellizat began life as an ACCO in the Australian Army. After spending some time in Marulan Country Fire Brigade (near Australia’s Capital City of Canberra), the vehicle was purchased by Gray.

The Wothahellizat has everything you need from a fully operational 20,000-pound PTO winch, air conditioning, motorcycle for exploring where a big motorhome can’t get to, and hydraulically operated roof that raises over three feet to provide full standing height. It even has a security camera system so you can see out when all the shutters are closed.
With a 3300-watt solar inverter, the Honda 1kva generator is only needed to top things up if it has been overcast for an extended period of time.
According to Gray, there’s enough power from the inverter for just about anything. “I even do light welding jobs from it.”
Imagine, if you can, trying to set up in a caravan park with 30 or more people standing around gawking.
“We used to find this quite stressful,” said Gray. “We solved the problem by not going into them. We haven’t stayed in a caravan park for several years now.”
Gray regards the six-foot-high deck on the back of the vehicle as the highlight of the design as it offers a comfortable and high vantage point to watch the wilderness.
The vehicle offers complete self sufficiency. You can live anywhere, once you turn off the motor you’re home.

Civil War 2 - The Chickens Have Had Enough!

The banner the bi-plane was towing read "No tree Hugerrs" with what looks like a green circle with an axe head in a tree stump. Next to that was the universal sign for prohibited over a person hugging a pine tree. He beamed proudly and told me, "No tree huggers! Right Dad?" I didn't know if I should be proud or bust out laughing. So I just replied, "Yep!" while wearing a grin.

"Nobama!" my son exclaimed. "I see that," I replied. My smile grew

And below that, at the foot of the objective, was a chicken cop car loaded with three special forces chickens and 3 weapon carrying chickens behind. Probably waiting for a breach to enter their objective and take out their target. My grin grew larger.
Oh yes, their objective. Well, it was flying what appears to be an Islamic flag (crescent moon and star) on fire.
Hmm...and as for the objective...well, look for yourself.
My son explained to me that the chickens were attacking the White House to get rid of the dictator, Øbama.
By this time I couldn't hold it in any longer and started laughing. Not wanting my son to think I was laughing at his work, I told him this would make a great movie.
"But why chickens," I asked.
"Because the chickens have had enough," he exclaimed.
I had a good laugh and told him, "Don't let your mother see this!"

22 Signs That Voter Fraud Is Wildly Out Of Control And The Election Was A Sham

After what we have seen this November, how is any American ever supposed to trust the integrity of our elections ever again? There were over 70,000 reports of voting problems on election day, and there are numerous eyewitnesses that claim that they saw voting machines change votes for one candidate to another candidate right in front of their eyes. In several of the swing states there were counties where the number of registered voters exceeded the total voting age population by a very wide margin. How in the world does that happen? Some of the vote totals that were reported in some of the most important swing states were completely and totally absurd, and yet we are just supposed to accept them on blind faith without ever being able to ask any questions. Of course the Romney campaign has already totally given up, so it isn’t as if there is any chance that the results of the presidential election could be overturned anyhow. But if massive election fraud did take place and nobody is held accountable, what kind of message will that send for the future? Will we ever be able to have faith in the integrity of our elections ever again?
The following are 22 signs that voter fraud is wildly out of control and the election was a sham…
#1 According to the Election Protection Coalition, voters across the United States reported more than 70,000 voting problems by 5 PM Eastern time on election day.
#2 There were 59 voting divisions in the city of Philadelphia where Mitt Romney did not receive a single vote. In those voting divisions, the combined vote total was 19,605 for Barack Obama and 0 for Mitt Romney.
#3 The overall voter turnout rate in Philadelphia was only about 60 percent. But in the areas of Philadelphia where Republican poll watchers were illegally removed, the voter turnout rate was over 90% and Obama received over 99% of the vote. Officials in Philadelphia have already ruled out an investigation.
#4 According to WND, one poll watcher in Pennsylvania actually claims that he witnessed voting machine software repeatedly switch votes from Mitt Romney to Barack Obama…
It was in Upper Macungie Township, near Allentown, Pa., where an auditor, Robert Ashcroft, was dispatched by Republicans to monitor the vote on Election Day. He said the software he observed would “change the selection back to default – to Obama.”#5 Somehow Mitt Romney won 55 out of the 67 counties in the state of Pennsylvania and still managed to lose the entire state by a wide margin because of the absurd vote totals that Obama ran up in the urban areas.
He said that happened in about 5 percent to 10 percent of the votes.
He said the changes appeared to have been made by a software program.
Ashcroft said the format for computer programming has a default status, and in this case it appeared to be designating a vote for Obama each time it went to default.
#6 Barack Obama received more than 98 percent of the vote in 10 out of the 50 wards in the city of Chicago.
#7 Prior to the election, voters in the states of Nevada, North Carolina, Texas and Ohio all reported that voting machines were switching their votes for Romney over to Obama.
#8 There were more than 50 precincts in Cuyahoga County, Ohio where Mitt Romney received 2 votes or less.
#9 There were more than 100 precincts in Cuyahoga County, Ohio where Barack Obama received more than 99 times the votes that Mitt Romney did.
#10 Barack Obama also received more than 99% of the vote in a number of very important precincts down in Broward County, Florida.
#11 Wood County, Ohio (which Obama won) has a voting age population of 98,213, but somehow 106,258 voters were registered to vote on election day.
#12 Ten counties in the swing state of Colorado have a voter registration rate of more than 100%.
#13 Barack Obama did not win in a single state that absolutely requires a photo I.D. in order to vote.
#14 In Ohio, two election judges were caught allowing unregistered voters to cast ballots.
#15 Many Ohio voters that showed up at the polls on election day were surprised when they were informed that they had already voted.
#16 In fact, there were reports all over the nation of people being unable to vote because records showed that they had already voted.
#17 According to U.S. Representative Allen West, there were numerous “voting irregularities” in St. Lucie County, Florida on election day…
“The thing that spurred our curiosity in our race was the fact that at 1 o’clock in the morning on Election Night, all of a sudden there was a 4,000-vote swing that took me from being ahead to put the lead into my opponent’s hands.”#18 In Wisconsin, there were allegations that Obama voters were actually being bussed in from out of state…
The Democrats stationed a self described “BIG Chicago pro bono attorney” as one of their two observers at this small polling place. He remained at the polling place from 7:00 a.m. until well after 8:p.m. …..A high priced CHICAGO attorney, sitting in a Sheboygan WISCONSIN polling place, observing wards comprised of 1500 voters? ….
WHY???
Why would someone from Chicago be observing in Sheboygan Wisconsin? And WHY at such a small polling place? Finally, isn’t it interesting that this would occur at the VERY polling place in which all of the above described events ALSO occurred? AGAIN WHY WOULD A CHICAGO ATTORNEY BE OBSERVING AN ELECTION POLLING PLACE WITH FEWER THAN 1500 VOTERS IN IT, IN SHEBOYGAN WISCONSIN? Of all the places where there has been suspected voting irregularities, and OUTRIGHT FRAUD throughout the ENTIRE United States, WHY HERE? WHY SHEBOYGAN? WHY THIS SMALL WARD?
This lawyer spent the day running in and out making, and taking calls, which coincidentally then coincided with influxes of groups of individuals by the van and bus loads, coming in to register, AND VOTE, using what appeared to be copied Allient energy bills. These individuals often did not have photo I.D.’s, could not remember their own addresses without looking at the paper, and became easily tripped, confused and annoyed when questioned.
Many of these same individuals, just so happened to be dressed in/wearing CHICAGO BEARS apparel, and whom openly discussed “catching busses back to Chicago” with each other, with poll workers, via their cell phones in the lobby area just outside the polling place, as well as in the parking lot, both before and AFTER registering and voting.
One woman was dressed head to toe in CHICAGO BEARS apparel including perfectly manicured BEARS fake fingernails!
She complained because registering was taking too long and she had to hurry up to catch her bus back to Chicago.
We have photos of these people in vehicles with plates from different states, photos of them leaving the polls, and other irregularities.#19 Prior to election day, an Obama for America staffer was caught on video trying to help someone register to vote in more than one state.
#20 It is being alleged that unions in Nevada have been registering illegal immigrants and pressuring them to vote.
#21 According to townhall.com, there was a systematic effort by the Obama campaign to suppress the military vote because they knew that most military votes would go against Obama…
Aiding Obama’s win was a devious suppression of the conservative vote. The conservative-leaning military vote has decreased drastically since 2010 due to the so-called Military Voter Protection Act that was enacted into law the year before. It has made it so difficult for overseas military personnel to obtain absentee ballots that in Virginia and Ohio there has been a 70% decrease in requests for ballots since 2008. In Virginia, almost 30,000 fewer overseas military voters requested ballots than in 2008. In Ohio, more than 20,000 fewer overseas military voters requested ballots. This is significant considering Obama won in both states by a little over 100,000 votes.#22 According to the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, it appears that thousands of military votes from this election will never be counted at all.

Richard Trumka: This Whole Fiscal Cliff Thing Is Manufactured
During a speech today in Washington D.C., AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka called the looming debt disaster a "manufactured crisis" and said "there isn't a fiscal cliff."
"There is no fiscal cliff," Trumka says in prepared remarks to the National Mediation Board Conference in Washington on Thursday. "What we’re facing is an obstacle course within a manufactured crisis that was hastily thrown together in response to inflated rhetoric about our federal deficit."Obama met with Trumka earlier this week, in addition to other far left leaders, to discuss economic policy. Apparently a $3500 tax increase on every family doesn't serve as a "crisis" in Trumka's opinion, not to mention the climbing $16 trillion debt and trillion dollar deficits posted every year since Obama took office.
Secession
Secession has been at the top of the alternative news this week and I think an important point is being missed in the discussion. Most of the talking points have been centered around whether or not secession is legal.
Now stop and think about this for a minute. The reason the petitions have begun is because we have a government that is acting illegally, with impunity, every day. What difference does it make if secession is legal? We have to follow the law and they don't? (In point of fact, it is legal to secede despite the flawed Supreme court precedent to the contrary.)
As Thomas Jefferson said, we must "separate from our companions only when the sole alternatives left, are the dissolution of our Union with them, or submission to a government without limitation of powers. Between these two evils, when we must make a choice, there can be no hesitation."
This is exactly the situation we are in. And we are in this situation because the states failed to follow Jefferson's advice and be "watchful to note every material usurpation on their rights; to denounce them as they occur in the most peremptory terms..."
As of the writing of this letter, 6 of the top 20, and 16 of the top 40, petitions seek secession for their state. These petitions show the level of frustration we are feeling with our Federal government and give us an avenue to express it. I don't believe the White House will respond in any meaningful way to these petitions, but it is a way for Americans to make a symbolic stand. It is a type of 9/12 march on our capitol. Personally, I signed the petition for the state of Tennessee.

in the Congress with the resolve to resist the headlong rush to
war the Lincoln administration and the Republican Party foisted
on the American people, North and South. He privately called Lincoln
an "ordinary Western man" that had no concept about American
government. Bayard was a rock, a crusader waging what seemed to
be, at times, a one-man defense of the Constitution and the Union
of the Founders. He was threatened by mob violence, his mail was
searched and was later confiscated, he was denounced in the press
as a traitor, was hung in effigy in Philadelphia, and later resigned
from the Senate rather than continue among the "reptiles"
in Congress as he called them. Such a man deserves our attention.
Bayard openly
questioned the motivation behind the war against the South and wondered
aloud how people could defend such a cause. "Could there be
a more revolting proposition than that the individual man, who is
domiciled in the State, and residing there, shall be held in the
position that he is guilty of treason against the State if he does
not side with her, and of treason against the General Government
if he does?" He contended "humanity alone" must side
with the "law of domicile" in such a situation. When his
son-in-law joined the Union army in 1861, Bayard warned, "In
embarking on this war therefore, you enlist in a war for invasion
of another people. If successful it will devastate if not exterminate
the Southern people and this is miscalled Union. If unsuccessful
then peaceful separation must be the result after myriads of lives
have been sacrificed, thousands of homes made desolate, and property
depreciated to an incalculable extent. Why in the name of humanity
can we not let those States go?"
In a July 1861
speech entitled "Executive Usurpation," Bayard roasted
the Lincoln administration and lamented the loss of liberty. The
Constitution "which we had supposed gave us, as citizens of
a free country, free institutions, in contradiction to the absolutism
which reigned in France" was being subverted by an administration
that smacked of Louis XIV, Oliver Cromwell, or Napoleon Bonaparte.
Personal liberty was the cost of centralization. "If [you cherish]
the principle of civil liberty, [you] cannot sustain this action
of the President [suspension of habeas corpus] which violates
the laws of the land, and abolishes all security for personal liberty
to every citizen throughout…the loyal States….power always tends
to corruption, and especially when concentrated in a single person."
Bayard typically
reserved his harshest statements for the Republican leaders in Congress.
He wrote in late 1861 that, "Their intent is the devastation
and obliteration of the Southern people as the means of retaining
power, and yet I doubt in the history of the world has ever, with
the exception of the French reign of terror, shown so imbecile,
so corrupt, so vindictive rulers over any people as those with which
this country is now cursed." He voted against appropriating
money for the war effort, was dismayed by the reckless government
spending – "God help the tax-payers if the money can be borrowed"
– urged his son to buy gold when the National Bank Acts passed,
thundered against their attempts to expel members of Congress for
their opposition to the War, denounced troops at the polls, the
military occupation of Delaware, and the arrest of dozens of Delawareans
for suspected disloyalty, and believed that the "more moderate"
Republicans were being "governed by the violent and ignorant."
He wrote, "If the people of the U.S. were not more practical
and informed than the element the French Jacobins dealt with I believe
we should have the atrocities of the ‘Mountain’ renewed. Fear alone
sustains them." In 1862 he wrote, "State necessity has
always been pleaded for the suppression of liberty."
Recent events,
of course, make Bayard relevant. Tomorrow, thousands of Americans
will flock to see Stephen Spielberg’s new film about "Honest
Abe," and will doubtless leave feeling a surge in admiration
for the "Great Emancipator." Assuredly, Bayard’s description
of events will not make the film. At the same time all fifty States
and over 675,000 people and counting have petitioned the White House
to accept the peaceful separation of their State from the Union.
Barack Obama has compared his administration to Lincoln’s. Perhaps
the two have more in common than he realizes.
Lincoln, the dishonest, Hamiltonian, dictator, and Obama, the Marxist, Keynesian, emperor, both have shredded the Constitution and both have faced a decision on how to handle open defiance of their administration. Obama’s will mirror Lincoln’s, at least in regard to the legality of secession. Secession, he will say, is illegal, unconstitutional, treasonous, and unpatriotic. And why not, he has so-called conservative support. Bayard said in 1861 that "I believe the great value of the American Union…is the preservation of liberty – by which I mean a Government of laws, securing the right of free speech, securing the freedom of thought, and securing the free and ample discussion of any question." The American people may not be ready for secession and are going about it the wrong way, but let’s hope there is a James Bayard in the current crop of United States Senators, someone with the manly resolve to contest the flimsy arguments that will certainly be used against the American principles of independence and self-determination. I don’t have much optimism.

ObamaCare Forces Supporter’s Company To Lay Off Workers

A corporation whose part owner gave $2 million to a group committed to re-electing President Obama announced this week that it will be forced to lay off more than 1,000 employees in lieu of the financial hardship imposed by the president’s signature health care law.
Stryker Corporation, a medical device and equipment manufacturer, will cut 5 percent of its global workforce, resulting in an estimated 1,170 layoffs, according to Freedom Works, a governmental watchdog group in Washington, D.C.
Signed into law in March 2010, ObamaCare requires businesses to provide government-defined health care plans to employees who work 30 hours or more each week. Those who fail to do so face fines of up to $3,000 per employee.
ObamaCare includes 18 new taxes and penalties that are estimated to bring $836 billion to the federal government over the next 10 years, said Alyene Senger, a research assistant at The Heritage Foundation.
“As businesses are affected by these taxes they are going to either — like you see with Stryker — lay people off, or they are going to turn full-time workers into part-time workers so that they don’t have to pay the employer mandate,” she said.
Stryker Corporation is a Fortune 500 company with 21,000 employees worldwide; the company sells $8.3 million worth of hospital beds, artificial joints, medical cameras and medical software each year.
Jon Stryker, grandson of the company’s founder, and a minority shareholder, gave $2 million to the Priorities USA Action super PAC, a pro-Obama organization. He also donated $66,000 directly to Obama and the Democratic Party, according to Breitbart.com. Stryker’s grandfather was the surgeon who invented mobile hospital beds.
Stryker also gave millions before the election to help Democratic candidates in Michigan, his home state, according to Breitbart. In addition, he donated almost $250 million to create the Arcus Foundation, which supports homosexual and transgender activism, as well as great ape conservation, according to the foundation’s website.

Hostess going out of business

Hostess is going out of business. The company, which has a bakery in
Emporia, is the maker of long-standing brands such as Twinkies, Ding
Dongs and Wonder Bread.
According to a post on a company website, Hostess Brands, Inc. says it is winding down operations and has filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court asking for permission to close its business and sell its assets.
Bakery operations are suspended at all plants.
The company says delivery of products will continue and Hostess Brands retail stores will remain open for several days so they can sell off already-baked products.
The Board of Directors authorized the wind-down in order to preserve and maximize the value of the estate after one of the company's largest unions initiated a nationwide strike.
The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union went on strike last weekend. The company shut down three plants and said it would liquidate if they didn't have enough employees return to work by Thursday afternoon.
"We deeply regret the necessity of today’s decision, but we do not have the financial
resources to weather an extended nationwide strike," said Gregory F.
Rayburn, chief executive officer. "Hostess Brands will move promptly to
lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its
assets to the highest bidders."
Thanks to Obama loving unions. Hopefully someone will buy everything and move to Tarboro where they will have no unions to deal with.:)

The Tipping Point: Amnesty Would Finish the Job

At least since the badly
flawed 1965 Immigration “Reform” Act, the United States has had
immigration policies that have gradually tilted the electorate to be
more liberal and therefore more Democrat. The 1965 Act replaced a policy giving immigration
preference to the immediate family of established immigrants to one
giving that preference to extended family. This resulted in the phenomenon
of chain-migration that escalated immigration levels from poor third
world countries. Immigration associated welfare and social benefits
costs began to escalate rapidly and eliminated any net economic benefit
of immigration to the American people.
Following the 1986 Amnesty, immigration laws
began to take a back seat to business demands for cheap labor and political
demands to please or appease increasingly powerful ethnic voting blocs.
As is true of all amnesties, respect for law declines and illegal immigration
multiplies. Illegal immigration was out of control by 1990, and indiscriminate
legal immigration was adding to the net economic and tax burden. Many
politically powerful business interests benefited from cheaper and easy-to-find
labor, but at the expense of American workers, taxpayers, and the economic
future of the country.
The pressure to please or appease ethnic voting
blocs increasingly hindered rational discussion of immigration policy.
Our immigration problems loomed large enough
in 1990 for Congress to mandate a study commission on immigration. The
Jordan Commission, known by the name of its chairperson, Representative
Barbara Jordan (D, TX), gathered a distinguished body of respected experts
and public figures in this study and conducted the most thorough examination
of the impact of U.S. immigration policies to date. Its recommendations
were completed in 1996 and presented to Congress and President Clinton
in 1997. These recommendations included correcting the devastating chain-migration
effect of the 1965 Act and limiting total annual immigration to 550,000.
Its recommendations are still valid, workable, and desperately needed
today. However, its recommendations were never followed or implemented.
They were pushed aside and ignored by the same political power combinations
of cheap labor and ethnic pandering that created the problems.
Republicans could have made implementing these
reforms a winning national issue with much bipartisan support. Barbara
Jordan was black, and blacks have suffered the most in lost jobs and
eroding wages because of cheap labor from illegal immigration. But George
W. Bush decided it was much more important to capture the votes of the
fastest growing immigrant group—Hispanics—before the Democrats locked
this group into its national strategy for Liberal Democratic domination.
Most Republican candidates only got about one-third of the Hispanic
vote. This supposedly smart political thinking was, however, based on
some unfounded and disastrous assumptions.
Bush began early in 2001 by trying to give an
amnesty to 3,000,000 Mexican illegals. This passed the U.S. House
with Democrat and a fair number of naïve Republican votes in the West.
Shortly thereafter, any thinking about such an amnesty was killed by
Senate Republicans because of 9-11 security concerns. Except for Cubans
and long-established Spanish families in the Southwest, Hispanic voters
and especially illegal immigrants are poorer, less skilled and less
educated than most Republican oriented voters. Those demographics do
not make them natural Republicans! Several studies have shown that they
vote Democrat because they have a very strong preference for their social
welfare programs. According to an NBC poll, 74 percent of Hispanic voters
support Obamacare. Giving an amnesty would have no more than a small,
short-term effect if any. Many Hispanic Republicans do not want amnesties,
and Democrats can always outbid Republicans on social welfare programs,
since they have no conscience about the costs or consequences.
The idea that Mexicans are religious and social
conservatives is more than two generations out of date. Bush did get
a majority of evangelical Mexican voters but only a third of Catholics
and even less of the fast growing number who are basically un-churched.
Social statistics on abortions and unwed births indicate that most Hispanics
are less conservative than non-Hispanic whites, especially Republicans.
In the first three years of the Bush Administration,
worksite immigration enforcement arrests practically ceased, dropping
an astonishing 97 percent. During the first six years of the Bush Administration
the number of illegal immigrants in the country increased by 5.3 million
or 79 percent. Bush and McCain, allied with Ted Kennedy, tried to push
through two massive amnesties between 2004 and 2006 without even disclosing
the possible costs involved.
Furthermore, Bush seemed to assume that no matter
how uncomfortable conservatives were with Presidential pandering to
get the Hispanic vote by amnesties, affirmative action, and ethnic preference
programs, that the support of the conservative Republican base is static—they
have nowhere else to go. This proved a disastrously wrong assumption
in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. Conservative voters do
not have to choose between two candidates who have either offended them
or failed to convince them of their dedication to conservative principles.
They can stay at home, and despite the radical liberalism of Obama,
they did stay home in surprising numbers.
Why did Mitt Romney lose to Barack Obama, whose
dismal economic record, stubborn devotion to unworkable Marxist economic
principles, blatant anti-Christian social policies, and incompetent
and perplexingly anti-American foreign policies should have demanded
his removal from office? It is because uncontrolled immigration
under Bush and Obama has built a new majority who want a big government
welfare state free of traditional cultural restraints. The unpleasant
surprise of 2012 is that a new electorate has reached a tipping point
where recovering our country will be very difficult.
Those so-called conservatives, who believe we
can get this new majority to vote Republican, if we just give some amnesties,
open the immigration door wider, and ignore the suffering inflicted
thereby on American workers and taxpayers are badly misinformed and
exercising incredibly bad judgment. We are dealing with a constituency
whose natural and traditional politics embraces a big government welfare
environment supported by high taxes on producers. We cannot out-pander
the Democrats, and by such surrender we would alienate our conservative
base. Amnesty would gain few Hispanic votes and lose millions of conservative
votes.
Our choices for correcting the nation-destroying
damage done by foolish immigration policies are now growing fewer and
more difficult. We should at least realize that we have been swindled
by those who counseled irrational and cowardly surrender on important
immigration issues in the past. Amnesty by any name would only hasten
the death of our country and our principles.
Five Thirty Eight
As Nation and Parties Change, Republicans Are at an Electoral College Disadvantage
Based on a preliminary analysis of the returns, Mitt Romney may have had to win the national popular vote by three percentage points on Tuesday to be assured of winning the Electoral College. The last Republican to accomplish that was George H.W. Bush, in 1988. In the table below, I have arranged the 50 states and the District of Columbia from the most Democratic to the most Republican, based on their preliminary results from Tuesday. Along the way, I have counted up the number of electoral votes for the Democratic candidate, starting at zero and going up to 538 as he wins progressively more difficult states.
This process resembles how the FiveThirtyEight tipping-point analysis was calculated. In the simulations we ran each day, we accounted for the range of possible outcomes in each state and then saw which states provided Mr. Obama with his easiest route to 270 electoral votes, the minimum winning number. The state that put Mr. Obama over the top to 270 electoral votes was the tipping-point state in that simulation.
